Las mañanitas

In Mexico, people always sing the Las mañanitas song at birthdays. Las mañanitas comes from the word mañana because it was a morning serenade. A lover would sing early in the morning to his loved one under her window to give her a pleasant awakening. A mariachi band or a trio might accompany the serenade.

La Siesta

Spain and many Latin American countries follow the tradition siesta. La siesta literally means the sixth hours. In Spain, the siesta is two or more hours long. People head out or go home to eat then take a nap.The siesta started in order to give farmers and workers relief from the midday heat. Today it decreases workplace stress and increases productivity.I think this is a very cool tradition. If I could I would follow this tradition because it seems like a great way to relieve stress and relax.
